After Visiting the Crazy Lady

Emery will listen quietly. "He is not wrong, and your story is troubling in it's own right. Breaking a rune this old can have consequences, he would do well to mend his foundation after each exploration of this magic..." She will offer an unnecessary sigh before settling herself into the rocking chair. "Magic always has a price Henry, no matter how mundane. This piece is that price, and it is older than Rome."

She will adjust the book she was reading and you can finally see the title, "Be careful what you wish for" by R. L. Stine.

She will hold up the parchment showing the rune to you while using her index finger to point out what she's talking about. "This rune has three basic parts, first a binding. It ties to something else and is fairly universal. The binding can be simple, such as binding a spirit to an object, or as complex as an idea. Without the full rune it is hard to say for certain. The second part is here, this is the symbol for a soul, but this is more than the common bastardization of spirit work. This Henry, is the true name of a soul, it reaches beyond the vale we know and grips tight. The third part, here, is transference. The true cost of this magic. It transfers the soul to what ever it is bound to.  A willful diablorie. I cant be fully certain of the rest without the original work, but I can tell you this abomination of magic has an end date, the binder will have seen to it."

Henry pulls out his phone and pulls up the picture of the whole rune to show her.

"Will this help?"

Emery will look at the screen with casual interest. "Well it's pretty at least." After a few moments she will shake her head. "I can see why Virag is challenged by the work, but I can not help with these other elements. My specialty is with the spirits. I try to avoid mages and warlocks where ever possible, and whomever created this is not only a master, but also clever in a way which would call on a new jihad. I'm not even sure Caine would walk away from this if he were to use it."

"So the 3 elements of this part of the rune binds someone's soul's True Name to an item or someone and at some point, the item or person this soul's True Name is bound to will consume said soul? Why in the fuck would anyone..."

Henry stops mid-sentence and then remembers we're talking about a Malkavian's cult here.

"That's just fucked."

He shakes away the thought of someone willingly giving the most fundamental element of a self to someone else.  Taking that thing is one thing, but being so weak as to offer it up willingly is appalling.   Feeling like the exchange is near its end, Henry remembers what Virag asked of him as repayment for his involvement.

"Thank you for your time and hospitality.  Perhaps we can collaborate again in the future?"

"I insist, perhaps in the future you can provide a unique refreshment." She will again look wistfully toward the door before collecting up her book and handing the parchment back to you.

"You never know what kind of mystery deliveries the future may hold.  You mentioned VIrag would need to 'mend his foundation' after dealing with this magic.  How would he go about that?"
